Address reads: 'County Borough of Brighton / At a Meeting of the Council of the said County Borough held on the 21st day of May, 1953. / Resolved:- That the Council hereby tender to Alderman Miss Dorothy Elsie Stringer their hearty congratulations upon the great success which has attended her year of office as Mayor. / Alderman Miss Stringer's Mayoralty will be remembered as the second occasion since the incorporation of the Borough that a lady has occupied that position and the Council assure her of their high appreciation of the able and efficient manner in which she has discharged the Mayoral duties. Many important Conferences have taken place during the year including the Advertising Association, the Institute of Municipal Treasurers and Accountants & the Sanitary Inspectors' Assocn. / As Chairman of the Coronation Celebrations Committee the Mayor has taken an active part in making arrangements for the celebrations to be held in Brighton on the occasion of the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. / A prominent feature of the Mayoralty has been the coming into force of the scheme for the alteration of the boundaries of the Wards of the Borough & for the holding of a general election of Councillors. The Council have noted with satisfaction the continued interest Alderman Miss Stringer has taken in matters concerning education and young persons and to the three great appeals launched by her for the Lynmouth Disaster Appeal Fund, the King George VI National Memorial Fund and the National Flood & Tempest Distress Fund. / The Common Seal of the County Borough of Brighton was hereunto affixed in the presence of: John E Hay [signature] Mayor / J G Drew [signature] Town Clerk'.
