This plate forms part of a tea set which was designed in the 1920s. Each part of the crest represents a different aspect of Portslade. The Roman galley signifies the Roman origin of the name; the cornucopia denotes the main industry of market gardening, the grapes represent health, an oak branch demonstrating strength and the six martlets represent Sussex. Each piece of genuine crest china has printed upon it the words – 'Copyright P.J.W. Barker, Portslade' - the crest's designer.. Photographed on display in Portslade Library, 28 April 2026.
