Object or Artwork info
Type (of Object or Artwork): Coloured Aquatint
Title (of Artwork / Object): Ovington near Brighton.
Creator (of Artwork / Object): William Daniell
Date Created (of Object / Artwork): c.1823
Description (Object or Artwork): The title of this view is a mystery. Daniell stayed at Ovington Hall, home of Nathaniel Kemp, midway between Brighton & Rottingdean to the east. The Temple is to the west of Brighton. There are several copies of this print. It shows the Temple in bare grounds surrounded by a wall with railings; there are some buildings to the right and in the distance but little else. In the foreground are two men on the left with a woman holding a parasol. On the right is a seated man with a dog.
