Burma image, WA0200. Photograph taken by James Henry Green in Kachin Land, Burma (Myanmar). It was taken in the 1920s. This monochrome photographic print is showing a Kachin soldier standing by Christian grave. The tombstone at this grave reads: 'In Loving Memory of Lt Harry Whiting Darney, BMP [Burma Military Police]. Born at Faversham, Kent, January 22nd 1892. Died at Konglu, September 5th 1919. Life in the world to come. This tablet is erected by his brother officers of the Burma Police.'
This photograph was taken by James Henry Green in the 1920s, a recruiting officer for the Burma Rifles who spent more than twenty years in Burma, much of it based in the northern hill states.
Self and some of the party during a rest. Except in the hills rough roads exist throughout the Shan States and bullock cart transport is slow but sure.
