Description (Object or Artwork): This magic lantern slide shows the Royal Pavilion during its use as an Indian Military Hospital during World War One. It was probably produced by Henry Roberts, the Director of the Pavilion to illustrate later lectures on the subject. The image shows the operating theatre in the Royal Pavilion. This room had formerly been used as the Great Kitchen. Linoleum flooring had been placed over the flagstones, and the sides of the room appear to have been partitioned. The room is only recognisable through the fake bamboo cast iron pillars that can be seen behind the medical staff.
