Description: Postcard featuring a photographic image of 'The Mystery Towers' under construction at Shoreham Harbour, c1917. It is captioned with the line 'Excuse me, what are they building here!' It was published by Ripley of Southwick.

The towers were to form a chain of eight such towers to be sunk in the English Channel with chains strung between them to intercept German U-boats. The scheme codenamed M-N was designed by civilian Guy Maunsell. The war ended before the project was realised. One of the towers was used to form Nab Tower Lighthouse in 1920 while the other was demolished two years later.
