Madonna and Child with Cherubs. The Virgin and Child are shown sitting on a flower-adorned lawn before a Veneto landscape. Two angels, placed either side of this central group, crown the Virgin. This work is typical of the fifteenth-century Venetian school in its use of colour. Following traditional iconography, the Virgin wears a blue robe, richly adorned with gold thread, over a red dress. This rich ornamentation of the dress exemplifies Venetian sensitivity to the visual qualities of colour and texture.
