Description: HA912636 - Photographic Print. Black and white photographic print of Carlton Hill, Brighton, showing junctions with Nelson Place and Nelson Street. The building on corner of Nelson Place [22 Carlton Hill - Edward Alwen, butcher] has 'No Thoroughfare' and an inverted swastika chalked on side wall, plus an interesting corbelled turret on the corner of the building. Barratt's Stores [26-27 Carlton Hill - Edward Barratt, grocer] can be seen on the corner of Nelson Street. The photograph was probably taken shortly before demolition of buildings between Sussex Street and Carlton Hill which made way for Kingswood Flats constructed in 1938.
