At the top of the pole sits James Ashbury, holding a bouquet of flowers marked 'Brighton'. Several banners amongst the crowd proclaim 'Ashbury Forever' and other marks of support. Amongst the figures slipping off the pole, Henry Fawcett, the blind Liberal MP can be seen falling away. Print produced to celebrate the election of James Ashbury as Conservative MP for Brighton in 1874. From the Local History collection.
