This photographic print was made by the photographer Allen Hastings Fry. It is a group portrait of thirteen officers of the 1st Sussex Royal Garrison Artillery Volunteers. This was a military unit based in Brighton. Like units of the modern Territorial Army, it was made up of part-time soldiers.
