Description: This is a black and white photographic print of an original drawing by the painter and draughtsman Frederick Nash (1782-1856). It shows the building of the East Cliff Wall, constructed as a sea defence in the 1830s. Costing a total of £100,000 it was completed in 1838, linking with the sea wall of Kemp Town estate. William Lambert, the builder responsible for the wall's construction, is seen wearing a top hat in the image. It is captioned on the reverse by Herbert Samuel Toms 'Pres. by Councillor Savage, 1 June 1911'.
