Photographic print of an excavation by Pitt-Rivers of a Roman villa at Iwerne, Dorset.
Annotated on the reverse '(This is rather a dark print) / General view of Roman Building at Iwerne (? Ibernium) taken from the west, showing all the foundations exposed to view during the autumn. The courses of flints in the main building were level, whilst those of the small secondary building to the north followed the slope of the ground. The plaster on the walls was only found at the west end of the building, a little of it can be seen in this photograph. The slabs of stone on the floor are Purbeck shale roofing tiles with nail-holes. Foundations of cross-walls were found as shown in photograph. The white pickets are fixed points in the big survey and some indicate the positions of pits.'
