Description: Watercolour. Barrels, planks, ropes and sails lie scattered about the west side of the pierhead. The inscription in ink on the reverse of the mount reads 'July 29 1834 1/2 past 3. From the end of the pier Brighton. Thunder storms about. Lightning last night. No bathing clokes? at Brighton. Copied for Lord Monson 1835'. Rev Dr William Crotch was a musician and amateur watercolourist who took holidays in Brighton. He is known to have visited Brighton in 1806 where he stayed at Heathfield Park near Burwash. Most of his work in the collection comes from a sketch book of 1834.
