Description

Bass drum. One side features names of Libyan and Tunisian cities and dates: 'BENGAZI 1942', 'TRIPOLI 1943', 'TUNIS 1943', 'TOBRUK 1941-2'. This side is autographed by Entertainments National Service Association (E.N.S.A.) performers and General Lord Gort. The other side (loose) features the initials and insignia of the Royal Army Medical Corps (R.A.M.C.). Used at reunions held by the 'Desert Rats' (British 8th Army, North Africa) at Hove Town Hall before 1997. The drum was bought by the donor's father-in-law, Mr B H Hayllar, after the war and kept at his music shop in Queens Road.
