This photographic print was made by the Borough Surveyor's department. It shows work in progress on the construction of an air raid shelter for St Mary Magdalene's school, Upper North Street, Brighton. The print was made as part of a record of local provisions against air attack. War with Germany had been declared three months before this photograph was taken.
