Description (Object or Artwork):
This photographic print was made by the Borough Surveyor's department. It shows an underground air raid shelter in St Luke's Terrace. The shelter is obviously still under construction: concrete beams have only recently been placed on the roof of the structure. Two wheelbarrows can be seen on the right of the photograph, both loaded with rubble. This print was made as part of a record of local provisions against air raid attack. War against Germany had been declared earlier in the month this photograph was taken.
