This photographic print shows a sow suckling her young. The photograph was taken at Hollingdean Yard, Brighton. These pigs were fed collected food waste and sold as meat to the public. The print was made by the Borough Surveyor's department. This photograph may have been taken in about 1939. It is possible that it could have been part of a survey of food supply measures in the event of war.
