Description (Object or Artwork):
This postcard shows the unveiling of the Indian Memorial Gate at the southern entrance to the Royal Pavilion estate. A large group of people can be seen viewing the unveiling from the north side of the Gate. The Indian Gate was a gift from India to the people of Brighton, to express gratitude for the care offered to the wounded Indian soldiers of World War One. It was officially opened by the Maharjah of Patiala, who had been a prominent Indian supporter of the British war effort. The image shows two people pulling down the Union flag from the gate.
