Description (Object or Artwork): This photographic print shows two children looking up at the Pioneer car of the Brighton and Rottingdean Seashore Electric Railway. The two children are standing on the beach, each holding a toy spade. The car is full of passengers and appears to be heading towards the Banjo groyne on its return from Rottingdean. The Brighton and Rottingdean Seashore Electric Railway was built by local inventor Magnus Volk in the 1890s. It ran from 1896 until it was terminally damaged by a storm in 1900. The railway was more commonly known as the 'Daddy Longlegs'.
