Description (Object or Artwork): This is a steel model of a D2 class steam locomotive named 'Como', number 308. The model was made by Dr. J. Bradbury Winter between 1884 and 1915, in Brighton, in his spare time. The engine alone took thirteen years to build, with the boiler being an exact replica of the original boiler. The model is to scale in every detail. The metal badge attached to the side of the driver's compartment is embossed, 'London, Brighton & South Coast Railways', with the number of the train, '308' in the centre. The actual 'Como' train was built in 1883 and was operated by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway until it was withdrawn from service in 1904.
