This print outlines a proposed grand scheme for the head of the Chain Pier to include baths, assembly rooms and restaurants. The Brighton Marine Kursaal Act was passed in 1883 to enable a company to be formed to take over the Chain Pier Company. The new company proposed forming a platform on the pier head to an area of about 600 ft. by 130 ft. on which to build baths, refreshment and assembly rooms. It is not known if any work was started on this scheme, but five years later the Brighton Marine Palace and Pier Company was formed to build the Palace Pier.
