Cup | I Silver French cup with cover, handle and dish. The cup has a flared cylindrical body embossed with a rectangular medallion, depicting Zeus and Ganymede, between a pair of cornucopiae. The circular foot has a pierced band and the handle springs from an Egyptian mask. The flat cover, with swan finial, is engraved, 'Presented to Sake Deen Mahomed by H.R.H. The Princess Poniatowsky of Poland, May 1825'. The hallmark state it was made in Paris, c.1820, by Marc Jacquait. The cup stands on a circular dish with foliate border. This silver cup with cover and dish was presented by Princess Poniatowsky to Sake Deen Mohamed in 1825. The Princess presented it after she was cured of 'Tic Douloureux ' and rheumatism by the treatments of Sake Deen Mahomed. It was made by Marc Jacquait in Paris, in c1820. The flat cover of the cup is engraved, 'Presented to Sake Deen Mahomed by H.R.H. The Princess Poniatowsky of Poland, May 1825'. The silver cup was purchased with the aid of the Museums & Galleries Commission and the Victoria & Albert Museum Purchase Grant Fund.
