The Bristol Hotel on Marine Parade, named after the first Marquess of Bristol,was opened in about 1835. Built by the owner , William Hallett who had also built 19 and 20 Sussex Square for the fifith Earl and first Marquess of Bristol. The Sussex County Hospital was designed by Charles Barry in 1825, finished in 1828
