Bowen's Library was at the south end of the Steine near the site of the Royal York Hotel. It was founded by Woodgate c.1760 and carried on successively by Widgett, Bowen, Crawford, Fisher and Shaw. Crawford rebuilt it in 1788, four years after he took it over.
