Description (Object or Artwork): View of wooden building with green shutters on windows to left. Two men standing under the windows.Green painted arched arcade to front. Man and woman in foreground to right. Two ships masts visible to right. Bowen's Library was at the south end of the Steine near what became the Royal York Hotel. Founded by Woodgate c.1760, it was successively carried on by Widgett, Bowen, Crawford, Fisher and Shaw. In 1788 four years after he bought it, Crawford rebuilt the library.
