John Carden, Jun.r., Clerk' Richmond and Sussex Street schools were set up as Board Schoolsin 1873 on Richmond Street. Richmond Street school was the first in Brighton to offer school meals. The Richmond Street school ran along the west side of Claremont Row between Richmond and Sussex Streets; playgrounds separated the boys' and girls' sections.
