Description (Object or Artwork): View from Chain Pier looking North towards Brighton. New Steine to left and Rock Gardens to right. Rowing boat in foreground to left at side of pier. Four pairs of towers visible. Towers in foreground to right showing doorway bottom right with windows either side, figure of a women visible inside. Crowds of people line the pier to right where funnel of steam boat visible. Piles of luggage in foreground to right. To left in front of tower steps leading down below pier with man carrying piece of luggage on shoulder is visible. Printed on image centre left 'Brighton 1839' and to bottom right ' Published for the Benefit of the Sussex County Hospital - sold by W.H.Mason, Brighton & H Hering, 9, Newman St. London', printed under image bottom left 'Day & Haghe, Lith. to the Queen, Gate St.Linc:Inn F.ds London' The pairs of towers were modelled on the design of the pylon gateways of Karnak in Egypt
