Description (Object or Artwork): View of the Chain Pier and Pier Head from the Pier looking West towards Brighton. Four piles visible with four pairs of green towers each pair joined at the top by a pyramidal arch each with a large flag flying. Centre foreground woman in blue dress seated on bench with small girl. Two men in top hats talking to right near railings. Pulley visible next to nearset tower to left. Man and woman with parasol centre foreground. Man in top hat arm in arm with woman in pale pink skirt with parasol and small girl in hat to left. Printed by Lemercier. W.H.Mason, 81, King's Road, Brighton. May 5th 1846 The pairs of towers were modelled on the design of the pylon gateways of Karnak in Egypt.
