The blockhouse was erected on the edge of the cliff near the southern end of Middle Street. It consited of a small circular building, 50' in diameter, 18' high, with walls 7' or 8' thick, in which there were arched recesses for keeping powder and shot. This view shows the ruins of the blockhouse and several cottages near by. Cliffs in front are covered in vegetation. There are three men on the foreground one standing on a boulder with his hand pointing to his right whilst talking to a man standing below him. There is a man pulling in a boat centre right and another pulling up a sail on left. Houses can be seen to right and left of the blockhouse ruin.
