The male rider sits astride the horse while his lady companion rides pillion wearing wide, paniered skirts. The horse has a bulbous body, skinny legs, long neck and a cropped tail. Earthenware, lead-glazed and oxide-covered. Made in Staffordshire, c1750. Part of the 'Pastimes & Amusements' theme in the Willett Collection.
