Commemorative bag. Shan, northern Shan state. Brown cotton warp and natural and dyed silk weft with supplementary weft motifs. Text 'Independent Burma' on one side and 'Independent Namkham N.S.S' on the other, with flag motifs. Length, excluding strap and tassels, 250mm x 240mm. Given to James Henry Green by Sao Shwe Thaike who was the first President of Burma (1948-1952), during an official visit to Britain.
