Sword and scabbard that would have been worn by a Rawang (Kachin) man as part of a traditional outfit.
This sword is protected by a wooden scabbard and has
a large hopped shoulder-strap of plaited cane. Attached to this hoop are tiger’ s teeth. The sword is a symbol of bravery and is worn with pride. The tiger’ s teeth come from an animal killed by the first owner, together the sword and the teeth constitute an important family heirloom, linking successive generations to their ancestors.
