Description: One of a set of five black and gold lacquered offering bowls used by Burmese monks to receive offerings of food made for them by people living near their monastery. The bowls are made from bamboo, horse hair, lacquer and gold leaf. The bowls are very thin and light weight. They are decorated on the outside with scenes from Burmese legends. Each one has a different animal on the inside, apparently giving good luck and prosperity to the person who has given the food. This one shows a fish.
