Description: Burma image, WA0221. reen identified two main types of grave - a pointed type, such as seen here, which he called 'Lup Sen' and a hut-shaped type, which he called 'Jarop lup'. These sites were used in the ceremony to send away the spirit of a deceased person to the land of the ancestors. It was sometimes the case that this would be done for more than one spirit at a time as the festival was very expensive and a considerable gap was sometimes necessary between the death and being able to perform the rite. These graves were obviously used some time ago as they are starting to disintegrate. [H/MS]
