Description: A degenerate type of Hkahku Kachin girl from Naing Ga [Nding Ga]. H&S (Researcher's notes in brackets)
It was part of Green's official duties to remark upon the prevalence of various diseases amongst the peoples he visited and sometimes would take photographs to illustrate what he considered were people suffering from goitre and similar illnesses. This photograph appears to be of that kind: 'They are a well preserved race, with no goitre, little insanity, and little sickness. Venereal disease is now, however, unfortunately advancing. In the southern triangle great deterioration is evident and goitre and VD are rampant' [dissertation, 1934:62].
