Maru girl H &S.
"Like the Nungs the [Maru people] all love bright colours, the ladies wear large numbers of necklaces and gong metal neck rings. They prefer light blue coloured beads, a colour which no Hkahku or Kachin would think of wearing. The women's ears are bored in childhood. A hole is made in both the lobe and in the upper ear. The northern earrings consist of coils of brass wire which are suspended from both holes. Further south the wire earrings have been replaced by silver tubes - about six inches long - to the front end of which red strands of braid or rectangular silver and enamel plaques are fixed. The boys' ears are also bored. Sometimes both ears and sometimes the left only, and a simple type of earring is worn." [dissertation, 1934:224-225]
