Description: A Flowery Yawyin man playing his pipe.
Yawyin was a term that was sometimes used in relation to Lisu peoples. It was considered an insult by Lisu peoples themselves and was never employed when talking about oneself.

'The men wear a white coat and gaiters, with blue turban, epaulets, belt and shorts. Some have, however, adopted Chinese kit' [dissertation, 1934:261].

*****'I have been struck by the similarity between the Lisus and the Lahus (Lolo) and Kaws [Akha] of Kengtung. Their dances are very similar and are performed to the tune of a gourd pipe' [dissertation, 1934:265].
