Burma image, WA0290. [Two Flowery Lisu girls.] (Researcher's notes in brackets)
This monochrome photographic print is showing two (Flowery) Lisu girls. Lisu are an ethnic group, part of the broader Kachin community, from northern Burma (Myanmar). They are a very scattered tribe and their dress and dialect vary from one district to another. The women wear either a large turban or a sort of gay headwrap, ornamented with tassels. They dress in a blue long tailed coat, shorts and gaiters, with a long apron in front, and are plentifully decorated with patches of green, yellow and red cloth. This photograph was taken by James Henry Green in the 1920s.
