Description: Burma image, WA0311. Kachin idiot with goitre./ A Kachin village idiot, who has a large goitre. Goitre is very prevalent in some parts.
It was part of Green's official duties to remark upon the prevalence of various diseases amongst the peoples he visited and sometimes would take photographs to illustrate what he considered were people suffering from goitre and similar illnesses. This photograph appears to be of that kind. Goitre was particularly common in some parts of the Kachin hills.
