The Inner Crater of Mauna Loa (Incorrect Description) Hebrides Inner Crater of Vesuvius. Oil painting by William Hodges, c1775.
The inner rim of the 'volcano' is seen in full, with twelve small figures at various stages: climbing the rim, crossing the crater (which is steaming in several places) or on the central outcrop, from which the thickest smoke is issuing. The outer crater appears at the upper left.
