A dog is walking beside them and looking up as they cross a stream with woodland in the background. Elsley was a popular artist of the late Victorian and Edwardian period who painted many cosy and affectionate scenes of children and animals. He also painted numerous portraits of the Benett-Stanford family and their dogs, who lived at Preston Manor.
