This is an image taken from a glass plate negative. It shows a view north of the northwestern corner of the Royal Pavilion, Brighton. Several people can be seen walking by. This photograph was taken four days before {g:VJ Day}VJ Day{/g}. During the Second World War, the Royal Pavilion estate was often used for events to promote the war effort. Pig feeding techniques were demonstrated in the gardens, and the Dome was used as an air raid shelter. The Pavilion's refurbishment in the style of a royal palace began the following year, with the 1946 Regency Exhibition.
